The use of technology has been an important part in catching people who like to plagiarize because now teachers can go online an see where kids are getting their information from.

Some ways colleges are trying to stop it is to have honor codes where kids sign to not plagiarize, but it's still not helping to much.
Yes, even though the Internet has left the door wide open for cheating, it's also a tool for catching those who do.
ReplyDeleteExactly, Greg. It is also a great tool to catch people for cheating. People did that 20 and 30 years ago, but it was hard to prove that they did that. These days it is easy to cheat but even easier to be caught.
ReplyDeleteI do not believe an honor code will stop plagiarism at all. The only way to stop plagiarism is by technology like you said.
ReplyDeleteI never thought of it from that point of view. It can be just as beneficial to catch cheating students as it is to help students cheat.
ReplyDeleteThe statistics in the links you provided are astounding. The most shocking one to me is that 77% of students think cheating isn't even a bad thing. I always thought it was instilled in students that cheating is wrong, but apparently it is not.
